In the UK alone the security industry have a choice of sixty plus associations or institutes. Some examples are: The American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) is an American based organisation with a worldwide presence including the UK. It undertakes seminars have a newsletter and it provide security training.
There is also the Institute for Security Management. It is a UK based organisation representing mainly middle class security mangers in the midlands area. The International Security Management Association is a US based organisation which focuses largely on corporate security managers for membership. It is evident that Security Institute by no means have a monopoly over security management in the UK.
A more futuristic approach towards the secuity industry would be to incorporate generic topics such as health and safety management, HR and other core skills into the competency model for management development.
