The Level 3 certificate for Delivering Physical Intervention conforms with the QCF unit ‘Delivering Physical Intervention Training’ reference T/601/2503. Awarding bodies currently offering this qualification, who also accepts the ICM qualification in line with SIA guidelines include EDI, BIIAB/Maybo, Skills for Security, Edexcel(BTEC) and City and Guilds.
Whilst from the 1st of June 2010 the new qualification for door supervisors and the modular version will be available, centres and tutors will have a further 3 months to choose which version of the course to offer, however after the 1st of September 2010 all will be required to teach the modular version including physical intervention where required.
It is only since April 2010 that the T/601/2503 qualification has been approved by the Home office and the SIA for the purpose of teaching physical intervention within the private security industry, all other qualifications offered in the UK prior to this date was at the sole initiative of training providers - your training qualification may not be valid if it was obtained prior to this date. please check with your awarding body.
The duration of our physical intervention instructor course is 5 days. A Pre course assignment is available and it is advisable for candidate to commence with this assignment several days prior to the start of the course.
AAB Training offers the two qualifications, 'Train the Trainer and Conflict Management combined in one course, candidates will receive a pre course assignment to be completed before arrival.
The health and safety as well as insurance requirements associated with the delivery of level 3 physical intervention for trainers stipulates that a maximum student to trainer ratio is 1:12 this will ensure that instructors are able to pay careful attention to individual learning requirements and safety issues pertaining to the application of physical intervention.
We offer the physical intervention instructor course to individuals or companies, individuals may attend our London based courses at a cost of £899 per person and companies can book our course for on site delivery at a cost of £7000 for up to 12 candidates. Course materials are included in the price, certification will cost an extra £50 per head as this is a level 3 programme.
Learning Outcomes of the Level 3 certificate in delivering physical intervention training.
Learning outcome 1
The student must be able to assess the training environment to reduce risks in preparation for physical intervention training. This will include identifying ways of reducing risk in the physical intervention training environment, conducting a safety briefing and ensuring that all participants are physically fit and prepared to take part in the physical intervention skills training. The student will have to identify personal factors that may increase the risk for participants.
Learning outcome 2
The physical intervention student must be able to safely and effectively manage the learning environment for physical intervention skills. Teachers must be able to explain different factors that are critical to the effective and safe delivering of physical intervention skills. The consequences of deviating from an approved physical intervention programme have to be pressed. In addition, the physical intervention student teacher must be able to manage learner behaviour to ensure a safe and effective learning environment as well as Identify and manage barriers to learning.
Learning outcome 3
Physical intervention Trainers must be able to deliver instruction in physical intervention skills. Learners will have to be organised and positioned so that they can learn effectively from physical intervention instruction. An accurate and safe demonstration has to be provided whilst explaining the purpose and potential use of the skill about to be taught. Skills should be broken down into components and coaching points provided. Teaching must be adapted to fit problem solving and skill of the particular workplace.
Learning outcome 4
The physical intervention trainer must be able to assess physical intervention skills of the learners against the agreed standards. Physical intervention Assessment documentation must be completed accurately.
